LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA TOWN COUNCIL (North)


Las Canteras Beach:

It is the longest beach in the city with over 3200m.. It is a white sand beach with a peculiar characteristic: the bar. This is a natural phenomenon resulting from the solidification of a lava ledge which went from La Isleta out to sea. This natural shelf is 200m. from the coast encompasses an enormous natural swimming pool which guarantees current-free water all year round. The European Community's Blue Flag has been flying here for several years.s la playa más extensa de la capital Gran Canaria, con 3.200 mt 

Las Alcaravaneras Beach:

This beach beside the Naval Base is From where, the promenade starts off which runs the length of the Avenida Marítima north to the outskirts of Las Palmas in San Cristóbal. At present, it is 950m. long, its length being restricted by the Club Nautico and the Club Marítimo Varadero sailing clubs

La Laja Beach:

At the southern exit to the city, this is a 1100m-long black sand beach which has become more popular thanks to the installing of an artificial ledge 300m. from the shore which means that the strong northern currents are no longer a danger.

Del Confital Beach:

This is a 750m. long white sand beach very near to Las Canteras, in the Isleta which is difficult to reach

 



SAN BARTOLOME DE TIRAJANA (South):

Los Tártagos, la Caleta, Corral de Espino, el Cardón Beaches:

All of these are pebble beaches in the area of the Castillo de Romeral castle and, although a little windy, are favourites for those who like fishing.

El Águila Beach:

A sand and stone beach of some 450m. where Björn Dunkerbeck, several times wind surfing world champion, has a school.

Tarajalillo Beach:

A stone and pebble beach next to the Aeroclub which measures approximately 1240m..

San Agustín Beach:

This two-tone beach where the sand is black or white, depending on the area, is a 750m.-long beach which witnessed the growth of the first tourist centre back in the early sixties.

Las Burras Beach:

This is also a black and white sand beach but it only measures 380 m.. A fisherman's guild is still to be found here which displays traditional nets in an exhibition which is becoming more rare. 

Del Inglés Beach:
This world famous 3200m.-long beach around which the island's centre of tourism par excellence has developed has been awarded the European Community blue flag.

Maspalomas Beach:

Undoubtedly the island´s best beach with 4750 m. in length and white sand, it plays host to the Maspalomas Nature Reserve which is made up of three ecosystems: the sand dunes, the pool and the palm grove. There is a nudist beach here and at the end of the beach, the light house

Meloneras Beach:

A stoney and sandy beach of some 570m., is famous for the atmosphere in and around the only bar on the beach whose speciality is paella.



MOGÁN TOWN COUNCIL (Southwest):

Arguineguín Beach:
A small, white sand beach beside the fishing port of the same name.

Patalavaca Beach:

A 400m.-long white sand beach which is very popular when there is a southerly wind. At high tide the beach is divided into two.

De Tasarte, del Cerillo and Las Canteras Beaches:
These are not easily accessible beaches and they measure 450, 399 and 250 m. respectively

De Tauro:

This is a 700 m.-long white-sand beach sheltered by two mountains with very calm waters.

De Taurito:

This beach is also sheltered by two mountains, but it is a black sand beach of 650m. from where you can swim out towards the port to visit the cliff's underwater caves. It houses one of the latest tourist urbanizations in the south.

Puerto Rico:

This is a 700m.-long white sand beach which thoroughly deserves the European Community's blue flag. Amongst the many attractions it offers, there is a water park build up on a ravine, some pretty gardens near the beach and a shopping centre. But its selling point is 95% sunny days a year and its good climate. There are also numerous water sports to be practised with excellent facilities, as well as trips along the coastline in a sailing ship. The Escuela Territorial de Vela sailing school also finds its home here along with port facilities and a reserve marina where yachts and sailing ships moor. These, with the base port account for a surface area of 6 hectares and a total of 600 moorings.
